Hellbent on DVD

After a long day of training, I came home to a welcome surprise -- Amazon.com had shipped my copy of Hellbent.
Billed as the first gay slasher/horror movie, the film ran the independent theater rounds last year, but never came to Cincinnati. So I had the movie pre-ordered and was looking forward to having it show up.
The film revolves around a quartet of guys who are attending a Halloween carnival in West Hollywood. The four visit the site where two gay lovers were beheaded the night before and encounter a muscular man dressed as the devil who soon vanishes. As the night progresses the devil pursues each of the men, resulting in multiple beheadings and gore amidst the many partygoers and dancers of the evening.
For a horror movie it is worthwhile and the gay card really isn't thrown in your face. It just happens to be the setting, where you don't have a blonde bimbo running for her life in the woods (though one muscled guy is in drag for Halloween). The movie uses real footage from the Halloween carnival in West Hollywood. The plot isn't very strong, but it doesn't rely on the typical gay movie themes of love lost, flaming queens, etc. Overall, I thought it was pretty good. I always love a horror movie.
Did I enjoy the movie? Yes.
Would I watch it again? I plan on watching it many times.
Buy the DVD? Kind of a moot question...
