Pirates of the Caribbean -- Dead Man's Chest

After last night's farewell cookout and party for nonljeric and a bizarre attempt at scrapbooking for all attendees (it was kinda fun), I got up late this morning. After chatting for a bit, I decided to take in a matinee of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Overall, I liked the movie. It was well-written, well-acted, and full of adventure. Johnny Depp plays Jack Sparrow so well, and I can see the influence of Keith Richards. I was surprised to see how many of the previous movie's cast were also in this one, not so much the main characters, but the supporting cast. The special effects were pretty neat as well, the Kraken monster and the crew of the Flying Dutchman were genuinely creepy. I especially liked Bill Nighy as the creepy Davy Jones. I'm surprised I recognized him under that makeup job. He plays villains particularly well.

The only negative I could say is that the movie was particularly long. I think there are a few scenes they could have cut or trimmed. The movie is 2 1/2 hours long. There is a nice twist at the end, leading up to the next movie to be released in 2007.

Tomorrow is work and evening softball. The Titans play Simon Says at 6:30 PM as the second session starts up.

Did I enjoy the movie? Yes.
Would I watch it again? Yeah, with company :)
Buy the DVD? Probably.
