Stick It...

The movie was fluff, but it was good fluff. After causing $14,000 of damage after a cycling stunt gone wrong, Haley finds herself in front of a judge who gives her two choices -- military school or gymnastics academy. Haley picks military, the judge says gymnastics. Haley was a world champion who walked out of a competition, ruining USA's chances of going gold, so going to the academy is the last thing she wants. It's the traditional, coach believes in you, with a nice mix of humorous bitchy girl stuff and bizarre slang. Oh, the gymnastic moves are good too, those girls eat mat and eat it hard in many a scene (think "MXC" and you'll giggle). There are some serious stuff to it too. You do find out why she walked out years before and it's a darn good reason. You also see how the girl's moms are like those cheerleader- or beauty-queen-pageant-moms, pushing their daughters into this when they really don't want to do it. Parents like that are frightening.
Unlike most PG-13 movies, this one had very little chatter going on in the audience, despite having about a dozen folks in the theater, most being teen girls. I did catch one or two comments from different groups throughout the movie and strangely they were about me! I swear I heard the group behind me say in whisper, "I think he's here by himself..." This made me feel a bit weird. All I could think is that they thought I was either gay or some pervert who liked to watch young girls. Since I wasn't wearing a trenchcoat and pulling a Pee Wee Herman, you'd think they'd have figured out it was the former.
Did I enjoy the movie? Oh yeah, laughed out loud many times.
Would I see it again? I'd enjoy it again :)
Buy the DVD? I think so.
