I got home after work and was exhausted. I ended up taking a three hour nap and could have easily slept more.

Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub), Eric ([livejournal.com profile] nonljeric), Aaron ([livejournal.com profile] aaron1978), and I went to see Date Movie, the comedy written by two of the six writers of Scary Movie at the Levee AMC. Sadly, I don't think it was the best two of the six.

Strike a Match!
Conscientious Kitty on the John...

The movie is a parody hodgepodge of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Parents, Wedding Crashers, Kill Bill, and more. Alyson Hannigan stars and I have always thought she was a very good actress. I think the movie started out funny, I was laughing at some parts of it. However, the movie seemed to wear on me after a while and the comedy just petered out towards the end. We did see previews for Scary Movie 4, which I admit looks really good!

Did I enjoy it? Some. Would I see it again? No. Buy the DVD? No.

.. which would make for a wilder title without the commas.

Tonight, I met up with Dave ([livejournal.com profile] cincy_dave) and Rob ([livejournal.com profile] mickeymac) at the Esquire theater to catch a early showing of Mrs. Henderson Presents.

Mrs. Henderson PresentsThe movie centers around an aristocrat widow (Dame Judi Dench) who purchases and renovates a West End Theatre in pre-WW II London. She hires a surly, but business savvy art director and business partner (burly Bob Hoskins) to start a variety/vaudeville show. When business gets slow, they come up with the idea to include nudes in the production. There are some very funny moments. The importance of the show that must go on becomes apparent later as WW II begins and London is attacked.

The movie is thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think people realize that Dench is an accomplished comedic actress, having starred in two comedy series in the UK for years. She is wonderful in this movie (and has received an Oscar nod for Best Actress). The sight and sound of her saying the word "pussy" will haunt me for a long while, and that is not the worst of what she says, but I'll not spoil it for anyone. As most have probably heard, the girls aren't the only ones who go nude in the flick. We were privy to a brief showing of a nude Bob Hoskins (and he's still very hot for his daddy bear age). The music and shows in the movie were very entertaining and the chemistry between Dench and Hoskins works well throughout the film. I recommend the movie to anyone who enjoys British humor.

After the movie, we went to a local Indian restaurant down the street. The chicken curry and rice were delicious. The waiter, however, argued with Rob and me about whether we ordered Diet Coke or regular Coke, the latter of which he brought us though we ordered the former. Lesson to the waiter -- never argue with the customers, just bring us the Diet Coke we ordered, your tip could be affected.

It was fun to hang out with Dave and Rob, but they needed to head home as they have a sick puppy at home. The guys and I parted company after dinner and I swung by Hamburger Mary's to see a late bit of the Cincinnati Mens Chorus' "Winter Heat" show. I got to see Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub) sing back up for "Summer Lovin'" from Grease, but since I didn't pay (and got a dirty look from a few who did), I drank my beer and headed for home. A very good show was going on though.

On the movie:

Did I enjoy it? Definitely.
Would I watch it again? Gladly.
Buy the DVD? Yes! (Freezing the Bob Hoskins scene for sure)
