A Day Out & About
Jul. 28th, 2004 11:22 pmI had lunch with my best buddy from high school today. The low carb diet is something of a pain at mom-and-pop restaurants. I was hungry after lunch. I picked up my comic books afterwards and headed to see Mom.
Mom was downstairs at her friend's, the recent widow and the son whom Mom says is like me. The widow seems to be doing well. The son if very nice, in his 50's, but doesn't look it. My gaydar went off like a spider sense. He's more like me, I suspect, than Mom realizes. He isn't married and lives alone, but often uses the pronoun "We" when talking about how much he likes his home. He's a nice guy. I felt bad for him today. Burying your father is a hardship of epic proportions, as I well know.
Afterwards, I went to see my buddy again and chatted for hours with him and his mom. About dinner time, I left to go hang with my sister. I was hungry and she hadn't eaten, so it was just the two of us at Ruby Tuesday. She and I talk a lot these days. She likes her new job and found out her office is haunted. The tale she told raised the hair on my arms, of catching a glimpse of someone behind her, turning and there being no one there. Apparently, her office has named the "ghost" Caroline. No real reason why, but my sis swears she hears the hallway creaking when it's only her and one other together, like someone is walking towards her. Creepy.
We ended the evening with some therapeutic shopping and I just got in. I head home tomorrow, thankfully, and will be a few weeks before I travel this way again.. I so miss my house.
