Tracking Mom
Jul. 8th, 2004 05:30 pmMy sis called me the other night at midnight to tell me that my mom and my stepdad went to Gatlinburg and was late getting back. I figured that they simply had gotten tired and decided to sleep over another night before driving back.
She called again today to tell me that they STILL were not home and no one knew where they were. Now the stepdad is 70 years old and not the best driver at night. My mom is 65, asthmatic and rarely drives at all outside of my hometown. The images kept looming in my head about car accidents, broken down vehicles, heart attacks, crazy hippie killers, UFO's, and the Bermuda Triangle (the latter being something to keep me from worrying). My sister even called the Tennessee State police to check if anything had been reported. Needless to say that mom showed up and called her about an hour later to say she was home, only two days late. My sis was furious and relieved.
It's amazing how the roles get reversed sometimes. All those nights Mom worried about me or the sibs being late or out of town have come back to haunt the kids worrying the same of the mom.
