kybearfuzz: (lunatic)
I'm in my hometown for the weekend, which had a great start. I met my new friends Dave and Stewart for a chinese buffet dinner and Shrek 2, which is wonderfully hilarious. My biggest surprise was that Jennifer Saunders of Ab Fab, who voices the fairy godmother, has a beautiful singing voice. She belts out a great rendition of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero." In fact, the whole movie was full of music from the 1970's and 80's. I bought the soundtrack at midnight on the way to my brother's house. No spoilers, but I highly recommend the flick.

At my brother's house, I ran into my 28-year-old nephew Chris, who is in town from Georgia for my neice's high school graduation. Poor Chris got caught for his 3rd DUI last year and is without license or car. It's sad because Chris is a really great guy, but he deserved this for drinking and driving, and I'm hoping the experience will straighten things out for him. We talked for a long time about home buying, cell phones, and family last night. We're pretty close. I miss not having him around regularly.

The day started well enough, the nephew and I went to see my sister at work. After about an hour there, she closed up shop and we went to my parents' old house to retrieve a few childhood items. My folks no longer live in the house and it's been closed up for a long time. It was kind of sad to see how it had delapidated so quickly it seemed. The sis and I found what we were looking for and left.

Mom's birthday is today, she's 65. My sis and I wanted to take her out to dinner, but she ended up running the roads with her hubby all day with friends, looking at old cemetaries apparently. She was too tired to go out with us she said. Well, it is her birthday and she can do whatever she wants.

After getting cleaned up, we were starved and decided meet up with some friends at Angels & Wings, the first bar & grill in my hometown after prohibition got lifted after 70 or so years. I never realized how much my nephew and my brother-in-law drank! Chris put away eight Coronas in three hours and my brother-in-law was putting away the better part of four pitchers. Both are currently shit-faced as I write this. I hate to say it, but both have drinking problems, especially in light of Chris' multiple DUI's. How do you politely tell someone they drink way too much?

Positive note: today marks the 10th anniversary of my graduation from college!
