College Roommates & Ten Years
Feb. 14th, 2004 09:03 pmI slept most of the day away. I've just been very sleepy lately, mostly due to the recent stresses of work that have been wearing me down a bit. Last night I found out my cordless phone had stopped working in that the ear speaker died.
I went to Sam's Club to see what phones they had for a replacement. I wandered around a bit and caught a glimpse of a very tall, red-headed man. I knew immediately it was my college roommate Rob. Rob is hard to miss, he's 6'6", weighs about 300 lbs or more, and has bright red hair. We were roomies in college for a semester when he decided to transfer to NKU and leave. He was a bit babish and always ate me out of house and home, but we got along. Of course, that was almost 10 years ago.
Not sure if I wanted to chat with him, I skulked away to the phone area and found a replacement. As I was standing in the check out line, I started feeling pretty silly. Rob and I were friends and I usually don't shy away from anyone. So, I left the line and ran into Rob a few aisles over.
I almost immediate realized that I should have trusted my original feeling, it was awkward from the start. He didn't seem to be happy to see me one bit. He was cordial enough to introduce me to his wife and we had some strained conversation about a few common college buddies and where they were. I excused myself and said good-bye and went back to the checkout. Apparently, my subconscious remembered things my conscious memory had forgotten... Rob was a jerk then and he's an even bigger one now.
