After this week of work, I was ready for rest and watching some scary movies that got released this weekend. After work on Friday, I caught a matinee of Cry_Wolf. It wasn't bad, not much gore because of its PG-13 rating, and had an interesting whodunit plot. Still, it was a bit predictable, even with a twist at the end. My only real negative comment for the movie is that I felt it gave too much away in the beginning. The main character is played by a young British actor named Julian Morris, who is pretty darn cute (that accent and those eyes... sigh).
Saturday, I met up with Gary, a chat buddy from Columbus, who was in town for Furgasm. He and I went to the Levee and had a late lunch at my favorite Irish pub. He's a pretty interesting guy. We did notice that some of the shops at the Levee was catering to the fact that the bears were in town. The cell phone company had a floor sign that said "WOOF! Send pix with our cell phones!" which I thought was damn good advertising.
After lunch, we walked around the Levee, across the Purple People Bridge and around the Serpentine Wall, with me pointing out as much Cincinnati history as I could remember from hanging out with Cincy's unofficial gay tour guide, the ever enchanting
cincycub.
I dropped off Gary at the Furgasm hotel. After chatting with him about the events, I regret not having gone this year I guess. I think I need to attend one at least to see what they are like. Maybe next year....
Afterward, I went back to the movies to catch the other horror movie out, Venom. It was pretty standard teen horror fare, lots of teens who are so one-dimensional and annoying that you really don't care if they buy it or not. I amused myself with noting how many horror movie cliches I could spot. The special effects were pretty good and some of the methods the killer used to off them were fairly original. I enjoyed it. It was rated R, but I thought the gore wasn't over the top and there was no nudity.
Last night, I had a nice long chat on the phone with a cute guy in Massachusettes, who is an actual cartoonist. He's a very interesting guy, I'm sure I'll chat more with him soon.
Whew.. for a slow weekend, it sounds pretty busy when I put it in print...
