My sister's late night Christmas Visitor

First off.. big happy birthday hugs to the very handsome bookish_cub!!! I hope you get all the spankings you desire :)

Work is going okay. My boss is gone, leaving me acting for him this week. I don't mind that, it means I have it fairly easy this week. The pharmacist IM'ed me to ask me out, but we're still agreeing on a day that can happen. I'm still sore from shoveling snow. Okay, all caught up.

My sister had a very strange early Christmas visitor that I forgot to write about. It wasn't Santa Claus. I've posted it

About 4 AM on Christmas morning, my sister got a knock on her door. She thought, at first, this was her brother-in-law who lived next door, dressed like Santa like he's done before. Instead, she hears an elderly woman's voice and proceeds to shake her hubby awake. The old lady through the door says that she's been wandering around all night and is frozen half to death.

My sister is leary to open the door right away as there was a grandmother-grandson team in my area who was arrested for holding people up (I kid you not). The grandmother would be broken down on the side of the road, when someone would stop to help her, the grandson would hold them at gunpoint and rob them. I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

With my brother-in-law holding his shotgun, my sis opened the door and there was a little old woman in her nightgown, no shoes and no coat. My sister lives in the middle of nowhere and couldn't imagine how this woman would have ended up there. She brings her in, puts some warm socks on her feet and wraps her in a blanket. The old lady had wandered around in the dark country from her daughter's house up on the hill. It turns out, the lady was extremely diabetic and was having an episode, walked out of her daughter's house, down the hill and ended up at my sister's. They called her daughter who was asleep and had no idea that her mom was missing. The daughter's hubby came and picked up her mom.

Needless to say, the nephew was too freaked out to go back to sleep and ended up convincing my sis and her hubby to open Christmas presents... at 5 AM. Man, that kid is good!

LOL.. I actually used to get up in the early morning and unplug the alarm clocks and telephones to prevent my grandmother from calling the house to wake us up for school!

I got an ass-whupping for that! :)

I hear stories like both of the ones you mentioned all the time. Having grown up in the sticks of WV and going to college in KY you just accept odd things. The really REALLY whacky crap happens over in Hazard and Tomahawk areas. (must be the inbreeding LOL)

It had to be scary though and completely understand the caution.

Well, I know my sister was pretty freaked out by the experience. Living out in the middle of nowhere and having someone knock on your door in the middle of the night isn't a normal thing usually.

Hey, Mark! Very cool journal - I surfed here, from friend to friend's friend, via the tbone's page. I've enjoyed a story or two from it. I got to spend a few weeks in Newport while working in Cincy, a few years ago. I smile when you mention Berea (where my hubby and I once went to eat) and Skyline (where we ate a BUNCH of times). We also miss Graeters... yum!

I have to ask you about your L&L icons. I assume either you created them or they are available because you're a "paidmember" or something? Anyway, I love them! I lust over them, in fact.

Thanks for the nice comments on my journal of incoherent ramblings. I tend to write a lot in my more lucid moments.

You ate in Berea, huh? I bet it was at the Boone Tavern Hotel Dining Room and you ate lots of bad things for you. I know it well, as I waited tables there my freshman year at Berea College. I eat there on occasion, and it's much more fun on the customer's side of the table. And Graeters is the best! I love their Chocolate Mocha Chip!

As for the L&L icons, I did them myself from different scenes in the books. I love Leonard & Larry, I even have an original cartoon on my wall in my home office. I'm not sure if custom icons are a paid member thing or not. If you want to copy them, just let me know and I can email the images to you. :)

Yup, it WAS the Boone Tavern. It was in late '96. I remember thinking how formal it all was, how very excruciatingly well-behaved the staff was (I figured they were all being graded on every little thing they did, or at least judged at every moment), and how my hubby and I were thus ourselves encouraged to be pretty formal. The food was VERY tasty -- screw healthy eating, this was Kentucky -- and we had a good time.

I'm gonna guess that custom icons are for paid members only, so I won't necessarily try to use them on LJ. But I WOULD love for you to email them if you're offering. I'm at bearfuz@aol.com. Thanks!
