Monday Ramblings
I finished the weekend driving home and then mowing the yard. I hate to admit this, but I started a dreaded low carb diet last night.
I'm a little chunky guy, I know, and I honestly find a stocky man attractive, but I have health concerns that I need to address now. My dad was built like me, maybe a bit heavier, and he developed adult-onset diabetes, high blood pressure, and a stroke, all of which eventually led to his demise a few years ago. All of his doctors said that his weight contributed to it and warned my mom that if any of her kids were built the same way to watch out for him. Well, out of five kids, I'm the only one.
The idea of losing weight is a good one. I'm not looking for washboard abs (although a nicer, bigger chest would be nice). I hope to drop 30 lbs. I plan on hitting the gym a bit more too. This is day one. Here we go....

My friend
He found a low carb cook show on the food channel. But does that give you some great iddeas for meals. And the products we have found in the stores, a very cool too.
So witht his show on tv and all the new products out there, I think you'll find this to be easier then you think.
2 things to check out. diet Vanilla coke? is the best diet tasting pop I've every tasted (and I hate diet pop) and Jolly Rancher's sugar free candy? they cure my sweet tooth.

As for pop, I gave up regular soda in January and have been on diet drinks since then. Diet Rite is pretty good, it uses a new sweetener called Splenda, which is actually a sugar derivative, that doesn't have that nasty after taste. Diet Coke with Lime is really good too, the lime gives it a little bit of a kick and it seems to cover some of the after taste as well.

The name of the tv program is "Low Carb and Lovin' it". Last nights show was meatloaf, then deep fried chicken and onion rings. Not an onion fan here, but nthe chicken looked really good. Now if they can do low carb potato's....

Be careful of all the low carb stuff out there. If you haven't already you may want to look through the latest Consumer Reports about all the new low carb stuff. Yeah, much of it is good but remember that you can't eat all of it and still be low carbing.
Good luck!

Eating out isn't that bad really, unless you're into alot of fast food. When I was doing it I'd just get a burger with no bun or a steak or some such and then substitute in some extra veggies for whatever the carb-du-jour was. I did it in the spring of 99 when the low-carb thing was still being touted as dangerous by the mainstream. Now that the diet has been proven safe restaurants are alot more likley to allow for low-carb substitutions.
The biggest pain is having to give up sandwiches of all types...they're so easy to eat, particularly in the car and all of a sudden you can't.
