Aftermaths

I went to work extremely early this morning in an effort to get out early today. My goal was stop by Home Depot, buy some quick set concrete, and finish the new mailbox installation. However, I just could not concentrate at work. I hate leaving a half-done project sitting and in this case I can't. Mail has to have a mailbox. So I put out the major fires at work and bailed at lunch time. I got my concrete, made it home and into grubby clothes, and set to work.

Thankfully, my nosy neighbor kept his distance until after I got the concrete in place and started assembling the mailbox. The end result is pretty good, and I'm happy with it. I want a double-punch in my butch card for this.

Mailboxes before and after

While I was assembling the box, the mailman showed up and delivered the mail, commenting that the box was the right height and he was happy about that. My old one was short apparently. In my mail was a letter from QuikStop. The letter was short and sweet, thanking me for my input and apologizing for my less-than-stellar experience. Included in the letter was a $50 gift card to QuikStop. I appreciate the gesture, but I very strictly remember telling him I didn't want any free stuff and I'm not terribly happy with the idea of using them again. I'm half-tempted to send it back to them, refusing it on principle.

The weekend has started, so I'm happy. Happy Friday!

I want a double-punch in my butch card for this. Consider it done:)

As to the gift card, why not give it to one of your nosy neighbors with the stipulation they leave you alone? Heh.

LOL... I don't want to award nosiness :)

No, but perhaps you can guilt that one neighbor into admitting he ran into your mail box and caused you work! He can go to the Quik Stop and get ripped off, too! :)

Hey! The new mailbox is awesome!

You did a terrific job there! You were also good about setting it the right height, too!

I would just send the QuikStop coupon back to them, no note attached, just send the thing back.

Have a great weekend!

Ps-I don't feel comfortable having a project half-done, either, especially something as important as setting up a mailbox.

If it was something that could easily wait a couple of days, like replacing a faucet on a sink, then I probably wouldn't be so apprehensive. A mailbox is a necessity if you want mail, so I had no choice.

You know, I think the Nosy Neighbor is simply exhibiting signs of Straight Male Syndrome. At the house I used to rent, the two male neighbors on either side of me would wander out to see what I was up to whenever I was working on an outdoor project. Like you, it annoyed the hell out of me. It struck me as a way for "the guys" to socialize and bond. I always wanted to say "Don't you have a football game you should be watching right now?"

LOL! That's a good point. Since I've never had gay neighbors, I can't identify a difference. Being their gay neighbor, I usually have the courtesy to leave them alone.

Assuming it's transferable, craigslist the gift card for whatever amount they overcharged you.

You get recompensed for the ripoff without having to use their services, they still pay reparations for bad behavior, and some random stranger gets a gift that makes their day a little nicer. Win/win/win. (Where "win" for them means "has the opportunity to do the right thing".)

It's definitely something to consider.

So American! We mostly have letterboxes in our front doors - we make the postmen and women walk up to our doors!

Well, in some neighborhoods, that's what they do. In my hometown, they drive up to deliver the mail in my brother's neighborhood, but still hand deliver it in the neighborhood where I grew up.

It varies here--some have mailboxes like Mark, some have door slots..my folks have a box on the house that the mail carrier walk up to. We happen to have a mailbox at the end of the driveway here.

NIce job! Last winter, some kids knocked three mailboxes off their posts-mine, and the two neighbor's boxes to the left of the house. I was grousing about it when one morning, a truck from the city came by, and a guy got out and re-attached the box to the pole. I was surprised. He told me that they always do that. It's a perk living in our 'burb.

One time, when a road crew moved our box, it got place too far back an the post office got very pissy with us.
