(no subject)

I took the Yankee/Dixie test on [livejournal.com profile] ericdabear's journal. I got the following results.

"57% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category."

I find this a little odd considering I'm a born and raised Kentucky hillbilly.

I finished my latest inspection today, which was quite a relief, especially considering the complexity of this one. I always feel a big burden lifted when I complete one of those, so I'm in a good mood now.

I'm heading to my hometown to see family this weekend and took tomorrow off to get an early start on my journal. I'm hoping the weather will hold out down South. It will be a good weekend to take photos, nice and sunny. I may head back down to the Falls to get a decent picture of them.

I got a 65% on the quiz & I'm from Kentucky too.

I don't think the quiz is too accurate, but it was interesting.

LOL! I know. Not one mention of "biscuits and gravy -- the perfect country breakfast" or the function of a real outhouse. I was a bit disappointed.

So how does a KY guy end up in Laurel, MD?

I got a good education at the University of Louisville, made myself completely and utterly useless in Kentucky (I got a Master's in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Computer Science emphasizing Remote Sensing and nobody [other than U of L & U of K] does work like that in Kentucky), so I had to go somewhere. I had been to the MD/VA/DC area before and really liked it. Got a job with a government agency, then switched to the private sector.

LOL! I can understand going where the work is. I was a chemist prior to my current job and transferred to Kansas City for a few years with my job. I transferred back to Cincinnati with a new job.

You sound like my best friend, who is getting his PhD in Optical Engineering in AZ. He's basically educated himself out any job possibility around here. He'll be going to Colorado or Florida. Still, there is something to pursuing a PhD and it sounds like you enjoy it.
