South Park, Harry Potter, and other Ramblings

Just a few odds and ends of the week so far:
  • Last night's season premiere of South Park was awesome. There was a lot of World of Warcraft animation in it as the boys teamed up to knock off a high level player who was continually killing them in the game. [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace has been trying to get me to play for some time, I can see the attraction.
  • Some nutjob mom in Georgia is trying to get her kids' school to ban the Harry Potter books. She says that they are promoting witchcraft. It always burns my ass to hear someone promoting censorship, especially when it comes to a book series that has actually encouraged kids to read these days. Next she'll want to ban a book because it "has that word in it" or dares to step outside her narrow world view. A hex on her...
  • Ugh.. the gym last night.. so sore... the highlight was a big burly bear with olive skin and a thick black beard working out just outside the cardio cinema where I could watch him while I was on the elliptical trainer. I said hey to him in the locker room and he's got a deep, grizzly voice. Le sigh...
  • Why is it when you order something from online, you get flooded with catalogs from them? I ordered something from a quilting magazine for my mom, sent it to her address and everything and now I'm getting all sorts of "Nancy's Notions" and other craft catalogs. I'm sure my mailman is loving that...

If Mohammed won't go to the quilting store, the quilting store will track Mohammed down and telemarket the hell out of him.

LOL.. sounds like you're familiar with this process. I finally got one that said, "This may be your last catalog unless you order..." and that's fine with me.

You think that's bad? A few years ago I sent a female cousin a Victoria's Secret gift certificate from the website as a christmas present. Now I get catalogs from them from time to time. Yech.

In college, I signed up a guy for the Victoria's Secret catalog. He was very insecure and when he started getting it in his dorm mailbox he was panicked that everyone would think he wore women's undergarments. Hee. He could never figure out why he got them every year even though his address kept changing...

It wouldn't be so bad if there was a male version of this catalog...

Victor's Secret? Doesn't have quite the same ring.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2006-10-05 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but who know's what Victor's Secret is :D

Well, let's just hope this isn't it. (NSFW audio)

Anyway, I think we'd all rather discover Mark's Secret. ;)

If I heard about someone turning water into wine, I'd say that was magic. Maybe we should ban the Bible next. ;)

Hmmm.. now that would be an interesting argument to get into with this lady... :)

Of course to people like that, the rules only apply to "other people" so who knows what supidity she'd pull out.

Banned!

I'm lumping that anti-Harry Potter lady in the same camp of crazies as this guy (http://www.boingboing.net/2006/10/04/man_demands_that_boo.html), who asked that his daughter's school ban Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451...a story about banned literature and book burning. Even more ironic, this all happened during Banned Books Week (http://www.ala.org/bbooks)!

LOL! I love how some parents just live in a world where they believe that their precious darlings don't hear or read swear words. I suspect that he's got more growing up to do than she does.

... and he's never read the book... not surprising!

I get lots of craft magazines too, but I have a legitimate reason to:)

Our mailman probably thinks we are paranoid freaks because Mike gets so many weird catalogs of military surplus supplies, preserved food to stockpile, medical supplies, etc.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2006-10-06 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you get craft magazines because you do them. Though I am amazed at my mom's quilting abilities, I've yet to give them a try, though maybe I should.

As for Mike's catalogs, I'm sure the mailman has seen far stranger things :)
