Weekend Update

Just a quick recap before I go to bed...
  • Friday Night -- dinner and the movie Click with the fellas. It was an okay movie, I really liked seeing Kate Beckinsale in a role outside the Underworld series.
  • Slept all day Saturday... and I mean all day. I was asleep more hours than I was awake. I think work has drained me significantly this past week.
  • Had lunch at Chipotle with a 411 chat buddy today on his way from Michigan to West Virginia. It was good to meet him in person.
  • Spent the evening watching some of horror DVD's I've bought through Amazon. I watched Happy Birthday to Me, a 1983 horror flick starring Melissa Sue Anderson from "Little House on the Prairie." She's a far greater actress than people give her credit for, and the movie wasn't so bad either. A nice twist awaits you in the ending.
  • I wish the fireworks would end. It's 11 PM or so and they are still booming in the distance. I feel like I'm in World War II London and there is no naked Bob Hoskins at the Windmill Theater for me to look at. And it's freaking Murphy the cat out. He's hiding in the bathroom. It's hard to go to the toilet when he's hunkered down right in front of it and reluctant to move.
  • I have to work tomorrow.. ugh...

but then again, we are closed but because the stock markets are open our systems have to run. i had a months worth of work to do to get all that together.

Nothing like being one of the few and the proud, huh?

I don't have to work tomorrow, and I saw that movie when it was originally released ;)

Ah, you lucky guy on both counts! I would have loved to have slept in this morning and I think seeing that movie on the big screen would have been fun.

Kate Beckinsale

I really liked seeing Kate Beckinsale in a role outside the Underworld series.

You need to see Kate in Cold Comfort Farm. It's a period piece set in the English countryside in the 1930's. She is outstanding with Joanna Lumley (Patsy), Rufus Sewell, and Ian McKellen. Look for it on rental. It's a hoot. "There's always been Stark-Adders at Cold Comfort Farm."

I think I remember watching bits and pieces of this movie on cable some time back. I love Joanna Lumley, but didn't realize that was Kate in the film. She's grown up quite a bit since that movie was released :)

Wow. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
I saw that movie back in 1983. I had forgot all about it!

What made you even think of this movie?

LOL.. well.. it's a long-ish story.

I was watching a "where are they now" sort of thing on VH1 or TVLand and they had a brief profile of Melissa Sue Anderson, who had talked about her role in Happy Birthday to Me and how it broke her nice girl role a bit. I had forgotten about the movie and only remembered bits and pieces of it (like the guy lifting weights and getting a weight dropped on his crotch and the guy with the long scarf getting caught up in the running motorcycle wheel!)

Last month I got a gift certificate to Amazon.com and looked up the movie on a lark and found it new in the Amazon Marketplace for less than $6, which was a price that couldn't be passed up. It made a great addition to the 1970's and 80's horror movie collection.

I'd forgotten how truly creepy the movie was for it's time. :)

hahahahaha... I remember going to see Happy Birthday to me at the drive in with my sister, her friends and their boyfriends... all piled in the back of the truck. I was SO uncomfortable as they all played make out and I had to pretend to be excited to see Mellisa Sue Anderson in her bra (when in reality I got turned on by the scene where the guy was working out, until he had the weight dropped on his crotch).

Lordy, the memories...

Hee hee.. I bet this movie was fun to watch in the drive-in though... except for the straight people making out! Talk about horror... :D

I always liked this flick and saw it when it came out with -of all people- my mom! Great suspense, good acting that was rare for the flood of teen slasher flicks coming out around that period, and the twist definitely kicked ass. Let's hope they don't remake this one, too.

Btw, if you wanna see another VERY creepy indie horror film that came out in the early 80s, hunt down the Aussie film, NEXT OF KIN (not to be confused with that Patrick Swayze crap movie). Scary, unpredictable, and an ending that'll make you jump out of your chair. ;)

I think a remake of this one would be such a shame. I recently heard that they are remaking Prom Night, which I roll my eyes at...

I'll have to check out Next of Kin :)
