Grizzly and the Bear Patrol 22

This issue took a LONG time to get done. I was writing the issue back in February, but family and work stuff got busy and I finally had the time to put the issue together. I drew the villain for this issue a long time back, but finally got around to using the character. I already have the idea for the next issue, so hopefully the next issue won't take so long to put together. Issue Notes are at the bottom as usual. Enjoy :)






























Issue Notes:

• Skullery Maiden was not the original villain for this story. Originally, it was going to be a character I drew in a one-off cartoon called "The Closet King" who wiped the memories of gay men so he could force them into a heterosexual life. The story was way too serious and it just didn't flow. So I pulled the Skullery Maiden out of the odds and ends of my cartoons and reworked the story to something lighter.



• The names "Jane," "Blanche," and the title "Whatever Happened to Betty Jo?" should sound familiar. I wanted to spoof a famous rivalry between actresses.



• Coloring this issue was a bit of a challenge. A lot of the scenes where in darkness, so I had to work with a different color pallet and had to put different shading schemes in place.



• I watched a lot of horror movies coloring this one. And strangely, several episodes of "Schitt$ Creek," which I have grown to LOVE!

Good fun and great costume for the villain. But... ummm... the size of that kleig light would BLIND anyone on stage!

As for the coloring difficulties, you could always paint the scenes with your regular color scheme and then use Photoshop to shift them all at once for achieving your desired result.

Having never been a theatre person, I was guessing on that light. I've always heard "bigger was better," but that's just my artistic license playing I guess. :D

If all the characters had the same color scheme, shifting the colors probably would be easier. The issue is that Colour Cub glows, so the dark color scheme doesn't apply to him. He even gets minimal shading opposed to the other characters, because since the light radiates from him, the shadows aren't usually on him.

And I don't have Photoshop any longer :( I did a software update that screwed up any PowerPC software. I'm using Manga Studio 5 now. I'm sure I could do it in there though.

Just put the special needs characters in different layers. You'll definitely be able to accomplish more that way.
