Grizzly & The Bear Patrol #20

I had planned on having this issue done back in June, but work, life, and other odds & ends caused a bit of a delay. I managed to get all the pieces done during the week and I got the cover done last night.

The rest of the pages are behind the cut below, along with some issue notes.

The issue notes are below.

  • This is the longest issue I've produced with 31 pages and a cover. I thought about slapping a big "Extra-Sized Issue" thing on the cover, but decided that I liked the cover the way it was.

  • Speaking of the cover, I think this is definitely one of my favorites. I recycled the engagement photo from last issue to make the invitation card for the cover. It is a simple cover, and it conveys the story inside without a lot of fuss.

  • In readying the issue, I realized that a lot of fans will fill in a story-hole or two, but new readers might have questions. I should have been a bit more descriptive in how Grizzly can erase memories using his telepathic power.

  • This is the first issue where Echo has used Grizzly's Sonic Growl in battle.

  • This issue has a lot of our ancillary heroes in attendance at the wedding (and the bachelor party), including [livejournal.com profile] mikiedoggie, Focus, Universal Jack, Ricochet, Dynamo, Cloak, and Arctica. I wish I had been able to incorporate them into the fight, but I didn't feel that Stormy LaQueef was a villain that would require a dozen heroes or more to defeat.

  • The wedding and aftermath literally takes place during a 12-hour period, with a morning wedding, an early afternoon reception, a late afternoon battle with the villain, and the evening resolution. I've not heard of early morning weddings, but I can imagine a summer morning, outdoor wedding would be rather pretty.

  • I ended the issue with Gabe and Jerry getting into bed on their wedding night, but not rushing to have sex. I read an article some time back that a lot of married couples are so wiped out from the festivities that they forgo the usual wedding night activities. After the day they had, I just thought it was a fun way to end the issue. I'm sure the next morning is quite the love fest.

Any questions, comments, or criticisms? I welcome any and all of them. Thanks!

Love love love it!

One of the best issues ever! And I love that I'm holding a martini at the bachelor party---you know me well.

And Grizzly 99% naked----woof!!!!

It amazes me that with your busy life, you turn these out so quickly. You have amazing gifts.

You struck me as a martini man! I'm glad you like it!

And yes, naked Grizzly is a good thing. Darn that strategically placed smoke. ;)

And I wish I could do them faster, but work and life take priority. It took nearly five months to get this one out.

Such skilled work, an engaging story, beautifully drawn and colored. I can't wait for the movie! :)

Oooh, I wonder if I could do the casting! Can you imagine the beefcake lineup for Grizzly?? (Hello, casting couch....)

Awesome job as usual Mark. Yay I made an appearance. And I've seen Mikiedoggie dance. *shudder* If you want to call that dancing!!! LOL

Thanks! I thought about adding a joke that he was only three hip thrusts away from conjuring a Irish demon (Mikiedoggie has some magical powers, you know), but ran out of space.

That was awesome!

The art, action, and dialogue are great, and I did cry a little at the wedding scene.

The vows the two men spoke were beautiful.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this story to make it a terrific read!

Awww... I like that my stuff is actually drawing emotion out of people. Makes me feel like I did something right. :)

And the vows were actually shortened because of space. It wasn't much longer than what you read though. I did throw a few things in there that references past issues. When Jerry says that he fell and Gabe literally caught him, that is reference to Issue #9 when Jerry gets blown out of his hotel window and Gabe flew to catch him.

What a lovely issue!

If I didn't already know that the answer is "my imagination," I'd ask you where the bridal couple got their wedding outfits so I could look for them in our neck of the woods... ;)

I'm glad you liked it!

The color scheme is basically from Grizzly's costume and the outfit design is from my noggin. I looked online for modern groom attire, but I didn't like anything, so I came up with this. :)
