Day ended better

The drowning cesspool of apathy has passed. I finally got off my can and decided to see the sights. This area is really neat, everyone walks, the buildings are nice and the local church is about 1100 years old. Actually used my digital camera to tape an MPEG tour of the church interior. I'm sure Mom will love that. The church custodian ranted something at me in Italian, but since I don't speak the lingo and he didn't speak English, I have no idea what he said. My guess is "no flash photography". No problem.

I will say this. If there was such a thing as a bear country, this would be it. From furry cubs to large bearded bears, they are everywhere. Some of the scenery in my photos are actually my futile attempts at getting some pics of the local wildlife, if you get my drift. Suddenly, Italy is becoming more and more inviting.

Some observations thus far:

1. This is the most graffiti I have ever seen in one city. It's actually sad considering how old and beautiful these buildings are to see them spray painted with who knows what phrases.

2. Everyone here is incredibly trendy. Almost all of them have the "look". The trendy clothes, the hair, the sunglasses. I thought I stood out before!

3. Everyone here smokes. I think they hand them out as pacifiers to the babies.

4. Lots of hairy eye candy!

5. Luckily, nearly everyone speaks English. I wish the American school system would adopt foreign language programs so vigorously.

I was walking down a crowded corridor of shops when I came upon a stage, three women doing kickboxing, and people staring. I thought I had wandered into a festival. Instead it was a commercial demonstration for one of those electric abs stimulator products. Even have a picture of some guy getting his furry abs shocked. As an FDAer, I have to roll my eyes at it. In our views it's an unapproved medical device that doesn't work. Grinned about it and though that the buyer should beware.

Well, it's getting dinner time for me. Unsure if I'll go for Italian or just grab a burger (McDonalds really is international apparently). Not terribly hungry, so I may go for McD's and save my appetite for Italian tomorrow. Definitely in a better mood than yesterday and this morning. Thank goodness.

Can't wait to see your pics. It must be cool to get to see so much of a foreign country. I wish I could travel and see somewhere else. (Somewhere other than Canada, that is...) Take care and I'll chat you when you get back.

It's certainly different. It does feel odd to be in a country where you cannot read the signs or talk to some people. We are so used to being one of the many instead of one of the few. This definitely changes my perspective on people who come to the States and can't speak English. I'll try to post some pics when I get back. Take care guy.

hrm, as if you really need to *save* your appetite for Italian? Heh, I could eat that stuff 6 days a week!

Ah Grasshopper, the trick is to let the company I'm inspecting take you out for Italian. They write it off as a tax deduction and you eat an awesome meal for nothing. I agree, though, I could Italian daily!
