"Ladies" and the Cincinnati MovieBears

Over the weekend, a handful of the Cincinnati MovieBears and I went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. It was an awesome movie. I like the modern take on the original crew and the changes to them. I always though Uhura was under-utilized in the original series, as were most female characters of the time. In the new movie, Uhura is far more aggressive, befitting a woman in a military service. The movie was fun, very exciting, well-written, full of "easter egg" sights and moments. I admit that I'm not up on a lot of the original series history (I'm more of a "Next Generation" guy), but the other MovieBears filled me in on stuff I missed. We went to Five Guys Burgers for some chow and chat after the flick.

The group was started by Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub), but I'm in charge of it now, with Brian ready to back me up if need be. After it moved to Facebook, which is great for staging events, I've noticed a funny trend in people wanting to join. As it's a "closed" group, most bears joining are invited.

Every so often we get requests from "ladies" to join. They're usually chicks with names like "Jasmine," "Brandi," or some other sad girl's name where a "y" is substituted with an "i" or a silent "q." The profiles are accompanied by some slutty photo of her with the stereotypical pouty lips. I know the profiles are not real, and I can't help but wonder how they gain access to request membership. It's funny in a very sad way. I can only imagine that some poor straight guy groups welcome these false hotties to their membership, only to get blasted with one ad after another.

Nice tries, honey, but you're barking up the wrong tree here. Seriously. :)

I grew up watching the ORIGINAL Star Trek.

I watched every episode of Next Generation from Encounter At Farpoint to All Good Things.

Love DS-9, Voyager, and Enterprise.

The first Abrams movie was really good; I look forward to seeing the new Trek movie.

Glad you enjoyed it!

"Brandy", LOL!

Oh, they have essentially stripper names at times -- Michaelea, Candi, or Brittini. I'm waiting for "Bambi" or "Muffi" to show up.

Let's not forget "Buffi" and "Jodi"!

So they're fake... So they're affected. So they dot their "i"'s with hearts... And have slutty photos. Aren't they a human being, too? Don't they yearn, and ache, and spam? Don't I deserve hot men... and jewelry? /Debbie Jellinsky

LOL... Debbie would work out well in our group. And we'd be safe, as no one would want to date her!

And the fakeri ladys can just stay away! -- Mar'qk

She is putting the bad @$$ out there. She definitely strikes me as a force to be reckoned with. Spock has a tigress on his hands.

The MovieBears group sounds like excellent social fun. Shame I'm not a bear (nor like in Cincinnati)...
