Three Day Weekend and Toonage

My first time as the coordinator of the Cincinnati MovieBears was this weekend. It went off fairly well. We only had five guys show with me included, but a small group was probably a good thing. It allowed me to ease into things.

"Mama" was good -- some good scares, good acting (especially by the kids), and a fairly okay story. It wasn't gory at all really. I thought the pacing could have been more even and the scares set up a bit better, but overall it was worth watching. We went, in group, to a restaurant called "Mokka" for dinner which was good.

Sunday was a lazy day and today wasn't much different. I did get to work out and get laundry done, so I'm ready to face the substitute Monday tomorrow.

I've been plotting the next "Grizzly & The Bear Patrol" issue. It's going to be my first multi-issue arc, so I admit I'm a bit antsy at the thought of trying to maintain a story like that. While watching "Being Human" on SyFy tonight (and Aiden looks smokin' hot in a beard, by the way), I tried drawing up a design for a warrior I wanted to use in the issue. I'm not totally taken with the end result, but potentially it's not a bad start I guess.

Thumbs UP

The toon does look to be a good basis for a warrior. As you work on the storyline, and this character, there'll more than likely be some tweeks either based on needs or complexity for drawing/coloring.

Thanks! The problem is trying to draw a costume that represents a different culture and I'm afraid I'll use too many elements from the heroes' uniforms. I like this design, but it does not feel... different enough.

Give his costume more elements that aren't contour-hugging, like the hood thing and the boot flares. That's a relatively uncommon feature on your heroes' costumes, and more of that would make him look more differenter.

Looks kind of like a beefier Sean Connery in Zardoz.

Hmmmm... back to the drawing board then...

I didn't think that was quite the look you were going for, but I do like the chest area. :-)

Thanks! I had fun doing it. There will be others.

I'd tap that!

Have a care: Your proportions are a bit off. More specifically, his head is a bit small for his body (I've been guilty of this, myself, multiple times). Beyond that, I'm not sure if the "hood" works: unless a costume detail serves a function, why keep it?

I know this is coming off all negative, but your drawings are so good, all we're left to critique are the niggling points.
