Coloring Comics and the Substitute Monday

Ugh. Substitute Mondays are the worst. Oh well, granted, I did get to take yesterday off so I shouldn't complain too much.

After going for a run, showering, changing, eating lunch, and buying some groceries, I sat at home wondering what to do with myself for the rest of the day. I could have cleaned house, but where is the fun in that. So I elected to start coloring issue #9 of the comic. It's strange to say it, but I always look at the coloring as a looming project, all 20-something pages at once, instead of seeing them page-by-page. It literally would take nearly 24 hours of straight, continuous coloring to get a whole issue done, as I can usually color a page in about 45 minutes on average.

So I tackled the first six pages yesterday, leaving just over twice that left. Overall, I like how this issue is turning out. I posted the splash page before and after coloring below and behind the spoiler cut. It wont give away anything really to the issue.

I've discovered that drawing people kissing is surprisingly difficult; getting the facial angles right, having the profiles overlap correctly, getting the couple's features placed correctly. It's tough.

That said, these guys either need to get a room, or their friends need to have to good sense to leave.=0)

I looked up several photos of people kissing as a reference and it's not easy. I wanted a simple kiss, not full-on passionate frenching, which strangely is a lot of the pics out there.

And I think the scene will make more sense when the issue gets done :D
