Grizzly & The Bear Patrol #6 - Rough Draft Page One

Last week, I finished writing Grizzly & The Bear Patrol #6 and plotted out the pages. Over the weekend, I started drawing and I was surprised how quickly it started moving along.

Normally when I draw pages, they never seem to turn out exactly how I imagined them. Sometimes they are better, sometimes not. I went to bed Sunday night feeling pretty happy about how the first three pages turned out and I realized that page one turned out exactly how I imagined it. Since I both pencil and ink the pages, I often take shortcuts with the details, not shading the dark areas with pencil since I'll be inking them or coloring them later. The rough pencils are often VERY rough and I add details in the inking.

Last night, while watching Drag U on Logo, I polished off a couple of more pages and decided to revisit page one. I did what I usually don't, added more detail and shaded things in.

It'll be several weeks, if not a couple of months, before issue #6 is done, but I went ahead and scanned the rough pencils for page one. I put it behind the cut to save space. It doesn't give away any story, but hopefully it'll make you guys wonder a bit what the heck I've written.

Happy Tuesday!

Oh, my! Well, there are WORSE places in which to wake up.

Heh... the next few pages might make you wonder about that statement.

I like it!!!

I thought you might. Egotistical as it sounds, I like it too :)

What kind of artist are you? You like your own work? That's just unacceptable!!!! LOL!
Just kidding!!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Freakish, isn't it?

It's not that I don't see flaws in it, but they are acceptable flaws.

Oh I know it all too well. I'm having my second art showing Friday night, and I'm already nervous!!!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh... you'll have to post photos! How exciting!

[identity profile] texwriterbear.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I'm getting excited about it too. Its at the same place as the last one I did. Hopefully its as profitable too :)

Love it. I have been dreaming comic book panels in my head as Im trying to write some....

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, that is funny you say that. When I was run outdoors, my mind often drifts to how the story would look on the page with panels. In fact, I think that might be where I thought this one up.

You are such a tease! But I like it!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Me? A tease? I don't know what you mean :D

...and thanks...

[identity profile] itzgid.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You show me a scantily clad bear in the woods and you think I'm going to wonder about the plot line? I already have my own.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, technically he's in costume (what there is of it). Maybe I should have drawn him nekkid.

See always room for improvement...

A roast by any other name would still smell as meat. A dancer's costume might be anything from a tuxedo to a thong, but the *point* is bare bear. And if you were to draw him au naturel, I doubt you'll find much opposition; though knowing you, it'd probably be a teaser. ;)

I'm sure the naughty bits would be covered in flowers, much like they are in this page.

I'm already chomping at the bit now...I like it!

I finally gathered enough courage two nights ago to pencil sketch my first canvass in 18 years (featuring some unnamed (as yet) superheroine) jointly inspired by you and a great friend in Perth. Just need to be brave, pull my finger outta my are and put oil to canvass and finish.

So I should be saying thank you :-)

Chomping at the bit? That conjures up some great images!

And I can't wait to see what you've done! Squeeee! :)

Looks terrific - well done! ... you've captured the moment beautifully. My, but you have delicious reveries ;0)

Thanks handsome! I tend to daydream a lot :)
