Softball Again

After last year's softball disaster, I elected to find a new team. My friend Drew was already playing on a different team, one that was far less competitive than my old team. He contacted his team's captain and he invited me to join his "Brew Crew."

Softball AgainWe finally got to play our second night of the season last night. The weather has caused rainouts for nearly a month. I went with my brand-new ball bat and had planned an evening of me hitting some amazing shots.

Well, that didn't quite happen, but the number of hits I did get outnumbered the number of strike-outs... barely. My furry @$$ needs to get to the batting cage this week. Since I was a kid, my problem has always been keeping my eye on the ball. I've been told I have a lot of power, but I lack any discernible amount of control.

What feels so different is the team dynamics and even the entire feeling of the game. While we won both games last night, the guys in the outfield were CONSTANTLY being funny and catty to each other. The amount of sexual references and jokes in the dugout was a sexual harassment counselor's nightmare. And even our team's one straight guy seemed to take it in stride (boys, he's short, stocky, furry and gorgeous, but I'll never tell him that). I did flight attendant and Elvis impersonations while I was base coaching, and for some reason, Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" played in my head all night.

It feels very good to walk away from the field and remembering that it was a fun time instead of beating myself up for every little mistake I made. We all f**ked up at least once last night and no one got angry or made comment on it (unless it was a joke). A good time indeed, and I'm looking forward to more of them.

The mornings after those late games (like last night)... not so much... ow...

I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying softball again. Your dugout sounds just like ours. It's all in good fun. Keep it up!!
HUGS

That sort of behavior is how my softball team USUALLY acts, other than uh, last week. [sighs]

Sorry to hear about last week's debacle. Hopefully it was just a fluke, phase of the moon or something.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the fun as much as the game. While I'd love to see your furry @ss in a cage, perhaps you'd play better if you just remembered *which* balls to keep your eye on.

ive never been able to hit anything myself

I've had this problem since I was a kid. I doubt it'll vanish anytime soon, but hopefully I can get a *little* better at it.

isn't it weird going from a super competitive and serious group to a group that actually wants to have fun. Good choice making the switch.

now, about that furry @$$.......

;)

Heh thanks.... :)

Sounds like this is a great switch for you, and a nice way to spend an evening once a week!

Congrats on the new bat, too. I find the batting cages help a little bit, but something gets lost on the translation to the field. I generally hit the ball in a lame but acceptable slow grounder. I run like hell and usually make it to first base before someone can run over and pick it up. That's been my strategy for 5 years and it seems to work!

LOL... I really want to hit a home run someday. If I did, I think I'd retire from sports all together on a high note.

I'll be hitting the cages sometime this week.

yay for finding a new team after last year's nightmare.

Yes, I'm looking forward to having more fun than headaches.

You should come watch sometime, we play on Tuesday nights.

Good for you! Personally, I'm rubbish at sports. Couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

A cow's arse with a banjo? Oooh... what sport is that? :)

Another vote for pictures of the furry @$$ at the batting cage holding a big bat.

Glad you're enjoying it. We just had a last night of bowling (for the season) in our gay league. It's a lot of fun and people can be competitive, or just bowl for fun.

We have a gay bowling league here and it sounds like fun. I'm no better a bowler than a softball player, but at least the bowling league doesn't get rained out.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I sucked at baseball...I could really send the ball flying, IF I hit. Which was rare. LOL

Nice pic. Nice shoulders *wufe* ;-)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I have hit the ball out of the park before when I played baseball, but only in practice. In the midst of a game, I just can't get it to happen. I'm like you, if I connect well with the ball I can send it flying... but connecting is the problem :D

And thanks handsome :)
