More Glasses Drama

So after 48 hours with my new specs, there is still something wrong. The lady at Lenscrafters told me on Sunday that my eyes needed to adjust to the new glasses, but I knew something was amiss. My right eye, which is usually the stronger one, suddenly didn't see so clearly through the lens. Just a slight, but noticeable fuzziness in the distance.

Lenscrafters AgainOn the way home from work, I stopped by my optometrist's office where her receptionist checked my new glasses and said that the prescription was slightly off. The last number in the sequence was only the slightly different than the prescription.

So after my P90X workout at home, I drove to Lenscrafters and had them check out the glasses. The tech checked the prescription in the computer against my written one and then took my specs for measurement. He came back and said the glasses were to the prescription was as written, so he told me I needed to go back to the optometrist.

On my way out of the mall, I called my optometrist to schedule a re-check. The same receptionist answered the phone and remembered me from earlier that afternoon. She then proceeded to question me about my Lenscrafters visit.

"Did he see the prescription?" she asked.

"Well, yeah, he checked it in the computer and then checked the glasses," I replied.

"Of course, he did," she said sarcastically, "Did he give you a printout?"

"No, I didn't ask for one," I said.

"Well, you should get one. Did you show him ours?" she asked.

"Look, short of calling him a liar, I don't see what else to do. Now is my appointment set?"

I was getting angry at this point, as both said the other was wrong, and I was stuck in the middle with a pair of glasses that didn't work for me. I was trying not to get irritated with her.

"I just need to get checked and if the prescription is correct, then I'll be back to raise hell with Lenscrafters. I just need confirmation that the prescription is correct," I said. She set my appointment and we hung up.

So I'm wearing my previous pair and everything is crisp like it should be, making me wonder if I really need new glasses anyway.

Have you considered taking your business to some place that doesn't play games with the customers?

This actually has been my first really negative experience at Lenscrafters. I have already been scoping out other places to go in case this gets really ugly. I nearly asked the guy there for a refund yesterday...

I used to think that people outgrew playing "monkey in the middle" by age 10. Silly me.

Yeah.. well, they may regret it. This monkey bites.

Yikes. Hope you've had all your shots.

Ai-yi-yi

Sorry they're dicking you around. I need new glass...not going to Lenscrafters!

I suspect you might be better off somewhere else. Let's see how the saga unfolds this week.

I have a fairly complex glasses prescription and over the years have purchased glasses at commercial outlets like Lenscrafters as well as at the eye doctor's office. More than once the outlets have produced flawed product while the more expensive doctors office glasses have never been wrong.

My money's on the optometrist being in the right.

I'm betting she is too. Still, I have to check. And then Lenscrafters is going to have a very unhappy visitor.

I had Lasik about 6 years ago. Great investment. I don't know how bad your eyes are, but for me, the initial cost ($2500) would have been paid for with my prescription cost for my lenses in just 3 years. My vision is great, and I love not having to mess with glasses. I have glasses for reading at night, and glasses for driving in some night time conditions due to the corrections (one is for distance, one is for close up, didn't get the bionic one I really wanted, but hey). Check with your Dr. next time.

I've given Lasik a lot of thought of late. And my optometrist actually said I would be a good candidate for the procedure if I wanted to pursue it.

Maybe it'll be my 40th birthday present to myself (in a couple of years).
