Weekend Stuff

Saturday night was the monthly game night at the house of a couple of friends of mine. Potluck dinner, board games, video games, etc. I was very impressed by one guys singing voice on "Rock Band" and everyone seemed to join in singing "Call Me" by Blondie. The only negative of the evening was the heartburn and indigestion from overindulging on the food during the night.

Yesterday, I went to see Legion. I was hesitant to see this flick because the idea of putting God in a negative light is unappealing to me. Most of the time when religious themes are made the bad guy, it's a church. I don't mind this as much as I think a lot of church groups and organizations (not ALL of them, so don't toss your holy water yet) can be viewed as corrupt or at least corruptable. I grew up in a Baptist church that basically preached God's love mixed with a healthy dose of "if y'all don't believe as we do, you'll burn in hell forever..."

This one though had God at the forefront, sending his angels to exterminate the human race because we sort of made ourselves unlovable. One angel rebels, falls to earth, clips his wings, and has a plan to save our butts. It stars (in a supporting role) Charles S. Dutton ("Roc" from TV) who I have always enjoyed. The special effects are fun and except for the choice of Antagonist, it was pretty much a typical action flick. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending, which I wont give away.

It's not a movie I'd buy, but it was good for an afternoon's diversion.

"Game Night" is something I've suggested to a number of friends that I would only otherwise see out at a local bar. I don't have a videogame setup, but board games and card games are fine. I want to buy "Scattergories," I think playing that with friends would be a lot of fun.

Game night is a lot of fun, though I'm not a big player of video games. Even I have belted out a song or two on Rock Band.

i saw legion friday night. I really liked the first half, the humor and scary parts were well mixed with the character introduction. But then they went 100% serious in the last half and sort of lost me.

I didn't really see God portrayed in a negative light. This was more Old Testament, Fire & Brimstone sort of storyline.

And Caleb from American Gothic? He sure turned out pretty...

I liked the way it turned out, very positive I thought and hopeful.

And was Caleb the son? If so, yeah, he's cute! I especially enjoyed seeing his nipples perking up under his shirt a few times :D
