Project Runway

I've been taking a little break from the internet. Sometimes it's good to get away.

My buddy Tim has hooked me on Project Runway this season, which I've heard from many a fan is not the best. I do like that it really is a straight-forward competition without the back-stabbing, alliance-making crap in which most reality TV wallows.

This past week, I watched Season One on DVD from Netflix. Wow. There is a huge difference from where it started to where it is now. I did enjoy it, even though I think that one lady Wendy was pretty much out of her mind from the start. She had a Survivor-esque mentality that made little sense, but I'm sure she was good for drama. From the missing dye to the missing rock-outfit pieces to the mysterious mustache on her daughter's photo, I think she was responsible for all of it. She may have put on her crying fit, but I wasn't buying it.

I've put Season Two in the queue. I have to say I guess I'm hooked. I do respect the show and the competitors. While my favorite is already gone from the current season, I have to say that the remaining three, even with their odd temperments, definitely are talented designers.

Mark, I dont know if you torrent for TV but if you DO then I must recommend Project Runway Australia!

Much better accents and profanity!

Oooh... I'll have to look for that online and see if I can find it. That sounds interesting! :)

I have a different take on Project Runway this season than most of my friends. Like those who are criticizing, I would like to see the show move back to NYC and stick with the three main judges Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi. But, I quit watching for a couple of seasons because of contestants like the winner "Christian" ... not "fierce" from a previous season! I think the three finalists this year .. Irina, Carol Hannah and Althea are among the most talented designers ever on the program. I stand by my opinion:) Who was your favorite this season?

Hope you had a good weekend.

HUGS!

While I really dislike Irina's attitude, I have to admit that she's really, really good. Still, I'm hoping that Carol Hannah wins.

I was a big fan of Shirin to be honest. I thought she was innovative and creative, especially when in crunch time. The wedding dress challenge was a good example. With minimal materials at her disposal she went for something that most folks wouldn't have considered (thread) and drastically changed the look. And for the record, the bride she made the dress for was a complete whack job!

I was fond of Shirin too. I had her slotted for the finale with Carol Hannah and Althea, but Irina deserves it too. Usually, one of the "evil" contestants makes the finale:) That would be Irina this season.

Well, Irina is there to win not to "make friends" as she's said. It's just a hard pill to swallow, for someone with a nasty attitude to have that kind of talent I guess.

I am seriously over this year's season. No stand outs in my book. Even Tim seems over it.

As I am still catching up on the past seasons, I guess it's hard for me to compare the current season to what came before. I think the designers are pretty good, but I have to admit that I've wondered how some of them got so far.

And at first I thought Tim Gunn was sort of snobbish in his tone, but now I love him. I even bought the comic book where he had to put on the Iron Man armor. I think he should do more commentary :)

If you like straightfoward, non-Suvivor-like competition, have you tried The Amazing Race? People pretty much win/lose on their own merits or luck...there really isn't much in the way of strategy, back-stabbing, or aliance-making.

I've seen it before and it just didn't appeal to me for some reason. I think Project Runway appeals to me because of the creativity involved. While I may not design clothes, I do design superheroes and, even I have wondered when creating a costume how functional it would be.

Let's face it, as wonderful as Wonder Woman's bustier is, her boobs would be flopping out all over in the real thing. :)

Wonder Woman's costume

Not to mention where the W's or eagles (depending upon the version of her costume) would be poking her every time she moves *g*

I wonder if super hero's have fashion designers? or do they make their own outfits? also, can a fashion designers become a super hero (maybe a lasso made out of a seamstress's measuring tape could be their weapon).

too much creative thinking....I think I hurt myself

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I have often wondered if there wasn't some underground service that made superhero/supervillain outfits. Can you imagine the shop, in some dark shady alley with the front entrance for heroes, the back for the villains?

Oooh... a fashion designer superhero! Now that sounds like an idea! :)

[identity profile] stereobare.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
There ya go.

To go along with the measuring tape lasso?, a wristband pin cushon force field device.

I knew that was too much creative thinking before bed time....damnit

poor villains, getting back doored like that

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, some of those villains are back door worthy :D

OMG I love project runway! I've gotten a little behind this season though...definitely not the best. Season 4 is the besr by far!!! ...you'll see :D

LOL... thanks! Season 2 is on it's way on Netflix now, so I'm excited. With the holiday hiatus about to happen on cable, it'll be good to have something to keep me occupied! :)
