Denmark Day One

Me and the Club Girl
Meeting the Danes

So far so good. It seems like it took forever to get here, especially the part sitting in the Paris airport. I've taken a few photos here and there, mostly while walking around downtown Copenhagen today and tonight. The full Flickr set so far is here.

Speaking French

While sitting in the Paris airport, a group of French-speaking ladies seemed to be gathering around, an older crowd and looking for seats in a terminal with far too few. I was actually getting ready to offer mine to one of the ladies when another one came up to me and said (as far as I could hear):

"Pardon, monsieur... blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah? Blah blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah. S'il vous plait?"

I finally had to just stop her to tell her I speak very little French and gave up my seat to her, which I think was the gist of what she was asking me. For someone who took three semesters of French in college, two years in high school and one year in junior high, this doesn't speak well of my French learnin', despite my getting straight A's in it. On a scale of one to ten, ten being excellent, I'd say I can read and translate French at a "7," speak it at a "4," and understand it when spoken to me at a "2" on a really good day. I really need to work on that.

On Denmark so far

I've only been here for a few hours, but my first impression of the city is that it seems very Western-ized. People are walking around with English-worded tee-shirts and speaking Danish. It's funny really. On my walking about today, I noted that a lot of younger folks were dressed to hit the town and there are a lot of clubs down the main strip. The pink wig lady is a hostess at one of them. I feel very old compared to them as they look like they're 14 year olds trying to look 20-something.

I've thought about hitting a bar tonight, but I am really beat as I've only slept maybe three hours in the last 36. I have all day tomorrow to see the sights and I have a few ideas on what to see. I'm only here until Wednesday morning, so I need to see what I can (besides work).

Enjoy wonderful Copenhagen. Men's Bar is the nearest they have to a bear bar, but you'll turn heads wherever you go!
