Grizzly & The Bear Patrol

Most of the folks on my friends list have seen this already, but I've had some requests from non-LJ folks to see the superhero-comic book that I've been drawing for the better part of a year. It's been a big endeavor and done more for fun than anything else. So here is the entire first issue (24 pages) in a non-friends-only post. The images are very large, so I've put them behind a cut to save space (and those who have read it already). If it were a movie, it'd be PG-13 or so (no nudity, but some suggestive stuff), so use your best judgement of whether you should view it at work.

Thanks! I'm not looking to publish this really, it is just for fun. :)

You know, as a kid, I got hooked on comics (primarily Superman and Batman as I recall). Your excellent work reminds me of the style and pace of those comics. You have a lOT of talent Mark!

Thanks, Rick! I loved the style and pace of those comics too. While I love them today as well, I do find they tend to get a bit too dark at times.

I still love it! :)
And I'm still honored to be one of the characters. :)

My only regret in this issue is that I didn't have you in costume (though I think you look good in rugby wear). Next issue for sure!

I know you cross posted the first installment to your friends list. If you wanted to do it with the rest of the full issue here, this entry should make it easy. All the images have been set to public so all can see.

Hope you're having a good week and will have a great weekend! :)

I thinks it's great fun to read! thanks Mark. I look forward to future issues!

Thanks Joe. It's looking more and more like there will be an issue #2 in the future.

"Good stuff, Maynard!"

Honestly, this is high quality. I'm envious of your skills.

Simply Amazing

To be honest, I have not read comics in a great many years and most likely due to the lack of interest in the subject matter. Perhaps I turned into an adult too soon. :) It's quite obvious that you have mad talent and your lack of current desire to publish, I think you have done the greater bear/scifi/fantasy community brethren proud. And without an X-rated factor to boot! (Not that I'd object to that either - lol.) Excellent job mister. I look forward to the future enstallments and perhaps learning of your print en masse announcement in the future. ;) Big ol'cubby bears hugs handsome! - G

LOL... well, thanks. I looked into the cost of a short print run and it's not an inexpensive thing. Not sure if it'll get past the online media version.

Solid, retro-styled super-hero fun! And of course, the art is to die for. Loved all the bears, but especially Grizzly and his sonic growl (which was a touch of genius, by the way)!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2009-06-20 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
I have a character profile for Grizzly that I need to put out there. It lists all of his powers. I wanted him to have powers like most major heroes, with little variable abilities here and there. I didn't give him heat vision or anything, so I thought a sonic growl would be fun! :)

I agree with garbear73; I wouldn't change a word of that comment. Excellent, and I'm not a "comic book guy" (by any measure except physiognomy)!

OMG! I've been out of the loop! I just caught up with this. It's magnificent, hot, a tiny bit geeky, and just a little bit puerile (in a good way!) I'm moving right on to the next issue!
