A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

Brian (cincycub), Rob (mickeymac) and I went to see a local production of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum last night. It stars cincy_dave as the comically whipped Senex. When young Roman Hero falls in love with a promised (bought & paid for) virgin courtesan Phila, his family slave Pseudolus comes up with a cunning (and constantly evolving) plan to get the two together and win his freedom in the process.

The show is full of great singing and wonderfully funny slapstick. I enjoyed watching Dave run around laughing and screaming as Hero's father last night on stage. Sitting in the front row with the guys, I looked up so many short togas last night and saw lots of white underwear. The guys really need to keep their knees together (or not, depending on the actor). Not necessarily part of the show, but just a humorous observation.

That is a very fun show. Glad you enjoyed it. I saw it on Broadway. Nathan Lane was the lead, but of course the night I saw it he was out sick, but the understudy was great. I was in a local production myself a few years ago. I was one of the three Proteans and had a blast from day one.

in High School during a dress rehearsal for A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court - it was the first time some of my fellow actors had to wear tights - some of them didn't realize that tights were not underwear, and then there were the stage lights... About 5 minutes into the rehearsal, a very red-faced director stopped the show and made us take a 5 minute break for some recostuming...
