My First Day Off

Fiery Flowers
Adding Color to My Yard

After multiple trips out of town and working several evenings to catch up on things, I finally convinced my boss that I desperately needed some time off. After my trips, I have so much comp time built up, I barely had to use my vacation time. So now, I'm off for the next two weeks and not really planning a trip to anywhere except maybe my hometown for a couple of days.

On my personal list of things to do, I got the first one done today -- work on the yard. A coworker once said of my yard, "It's nice, but it needs color." Most of the plants in my yard are shades of green, not my doing, but the previous owner's. So after going to two greenhouses, buying multiple plants, 480 lbs of fresh soil, and 11 border blocks, I spent several hours getting the yard in order, including trimming the hedges and mowing the yard.

I'm beat. I like the yard, but everything still looks a bit messy, so a touch up might be needed. It is good to have the first on the list done.

According to the greenhouse, they're called celosia, the bright orange is known as "kimono yellow"...

Spring cleaning starts next... those darn closets..

those have always been my favorite plants. And there are these other little flowering plants called "Jewel Boxes"? I think... ?

I saw some of those "jewel boxes" at the greenhouse. I should have bought some of those too :)

I saw a commercial the other day for this great new "Instant Garden" thingie, it's like a thin green mat that you just roll out onto your lawn, water it, and voila! A beautiful garden of colorful flowers! I tell you, who needs professional landscaping when we have THIS kind of space-age technology???

I thought about that too, it seems like the easy way to go. :)
