Week One -- The Irish

I found the local library -- free internet access -- YAY!

I'm staying in a coastal town called Malahide. It's a very nice place, lots of restaurants and pubs, shopping, and a cool castle I went to visit on Sunday. I have photos. Many photos. I'll try to post them this weekend when I buy a "day" of internet time at my hotel.

Work is going well. The Irish folks here are truly amazing. They are so friendly and helpful it feels surreal. Saturday, I got lost on my train ride back to Malahide from Dublin and asked an older couple for help on which train to take. They basically were heading my way and babysat me from train to train until my stop.

Sunday, I was walking about looking for a local coin laundry to do my washing later this week as my office doesn't pay for laundry service on foreign trips (don't get me started on that one!). I asked a lady at a crosswalk if she knew of one in town and she literally walked me down a couple of blocks to see if a local one was still in business. When she realized it wasn't, she actually offered to do my laundry for me!!! I didn't take her up on it, but the offer itself was stunningly sweet!

I should have guessed that the Irish were this nice, after all [livejournal.com profile] boobooirl is evidence of that. I wish I had time to post more, but I'm on limited time and it's dinner time here. Not sure what is for dinner for me, but I know there is a pint of Guinness waiting.

That sounds so nice. I've never been to Ireland but I have family there and really want to visit some day. Glad your having a blast.
I wonder what they call an 'irish car bomb'?!?!

I described the "irish car bomb" to the folks I'm working with this week and they didn't have it as a drink as far as they knew. They did agree that it sounded really good though, despite the less than PC name :)

I was told by a bartender friend of mine that it may be called a 'depth charge'.

3/4 pint Guinness® stout
1/2 shot Bailey's® Irish cream
1/2 shot Jameson® Irish whiskey

Last time I had one I got it with out the Baileys and it still tasted great.

Glad to hear you're staying in civilization where there are things to see/do and not stuck out in the countryside with the sheep (they can be so stand offish). Raise a pint for all of us.

That's pretty cool to be in a place where people are so willing to go out of their way to help you out. Hope you get to post the pictures soon.

There are some good 3rd party LJ clients out there. Here's a link to the Windows clients. I'm on Mac here, so I can't help you much more than that.

Oh, yeah, just so you know, if you came to Durham NC, I would actually pick you up he airport, provide a place for you to stay. While I do have a washer and dryer, you would be fully responsible for doing your own clothes. I have to draw the line somewhere. :p

Thanks for the info, but I'm dragging my Mac around here, so I don't think the Windows client will help.

And thanks for the place to stay and airport ride offers. I don't blame you for wanting me to do my wash. I prefer to wash my own underwear myself... that way the sequins don't fall off.

Oh, my, you have..., delicates? :)

I did not know you had a Mac. Damn, you just cooler all the time. So, yeah, you're definitely looking for Mac LJ clients. I think Xjournal may be the best.

I was kicked out of the country for not being friendly enough... and for not liking Guiness or Whiskey :-(

Glad it's going well

Its too bad Americans couldn't be the same way. I was in Hong Kong about 5 years ago, I tripped and fell and about 10 people helped me up. One man even bought me a bottle water and insisted that I sit and rest. It was just a simple trip and fall, nothing broken. Had it happened here in the U.S. they just look and laugh.
