The Great Cat Escape
After getting home yesterday, I decided to take down the tree and decorations. It took about 30 minutes, which should tell you how much I put up. Murphy the cat was "helping"... or not helping... Once the tree was down, I took down the wreath from the front door, boxed everything up and vacuumed the living room.
I chatted a bit online, ate dinner, and snuggled down on the couch with Maggie the cat in my lap. I heard a noise at the front door like someone was opening the screen door and letting it close. Maggie's ears perked up too. I opened the front door to find Murphy staring at me through the screen. I figured he'd been outside for the last THREE HOURS, since I had the door open to get the wreath down! And now the big pussy wanted in from cold...
Most people wouldn't have viewed this as a big deal, but Murphy has no claws (done to him by his previous owner not me... back off PETA!). As such, he can't climb trees or fight with other cats (unless he sits on them, he's a big boy). He seemed very happy to be back indoors and very vocal. I thought of all the horrible things that could have happened to him while he was outside. I'm going to have to be extra careful from now on.

Years ago, I did have a cat that was declawed, but was still an outdoor cat. He just loved it out there. Thank goodness nothing ever happened to him.
