Cleveland Area Oddities

I've been working in the Cleveland area this past week. The work is frustrating. I'm thankful that [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace is putting up with me as a houseguest during the week and this week coming. I forgot my camera on the trip, which is a big no-no for me, as I saw a coule of sights that made me chuckle a bit.

I took some state highways to get from the office to [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace's house. As I drove through Kent, OH, I stopped at a strip mall where I saw three shops next to each other. The shop on the left was a Domino's Pizza, the one on the right was a Dairy Queen. It was the shop in the middle that made me laugh. The business in between these two havens of high calories was a Curves, the gym for women. It struck me as so odd that they would put such a place between the two as it seemed like a terrible temptation for the folks working out. I stopped for the Diary Queen myself... mmmm.. butterscotch milkshake... so bad for me... but sooooo gooooood....

Thursday morning, I was getting ready for work and realized that I didn't have a razor for shaving, and ended up having to go to work unshaven. One day I can cope with, it's scruffy but not too bad, but after two days, my dark stubble is like that of a hobo. I stopped off at "that place with the greeters" and bought a razor that night and saw something odd on the pavement between my car and the one next to it. It was one of those early pregnancy test "sticks." My curiosity got the better of me and I turned it over with my shoe to see if there were any results. The result was negative, signified by a minus sign. I thought of a relieved seventeen-year-old girl jumping for joy and thinking "YES, I can go to the prom!"

The more I thought about it, the stranger the story became. It was in the parking lot, so does that mean she performed the test in the parking lot? If she had done it in the bathroom at the store, why not just throw it away there? I imagined the girl peeing on the stick behind the open car door while two of her girlfriends stood before her, blocking her from sight from any passing cars. The girls likely went out to celebrate and the teenager was giddy at the relief of not having to tell her parents or her boyfriend, the latter of whom would be using a condom from now on if she had anything to say about it. Yeah, I think up weird stuff.

I'm home now for the weekend and heading back next week for possibly the whole week. Luckily, I get to say here for Monday so I get to play softball! Yay!!!

I'm working a bit south of Cleveland proper, around Brunswick and Bedford, but if you're free, I'll give you a holler. :)

I'm good here, handsome, just a bit tired from the driving around. I'll see if I can't grow a scruffy face sometime.

I wish I could take more pics at softball, but some of my fellow players are bit camera shy. :)

How cool that you and Brian are getting to hang out! You must be having a great time! Tell him I said "hello!"

As for the rest ... Curves between pizza and Dairy Queen? Too funny! And the pregnancy test ... you're story makes me laugh instead of the normal "ew" reflex I'd likely have. Eh, maybe still a bit of the "ew" reflex anyway. ;)

Safe travels!

Hey there! I'll tell him you said hey :)

The pregnancy test thing is a bit yucky still...

The Curves story reminds me of my dentist when i was a kid. It was over a UDF! And every time we went to the dentist, we were rewarded with a chocolate malt after.

LOL... don't you love that? I enjoy daily doses of irony...
