Random Bits

The week from hell is nearly over, thankfully. I have yearned for Friday to get here, which made it that much longer. Here are some random points from the last few days.

  • Lunch at Skyline Chili yesterday was amazing. The whole place was full of burly, bearded guys. Even the manager was a hottie. If only they were on the menu...
  • Watched parts of Beauty & the Geek 2 last night. They were trimming and waxing chest hair off the geeks.. as if their looks weren't bad enough. It was criminal.
  • Ran two miles on the treadmill yesterday. It surprised me considering I'd not been to the gym proper in over a week.
  • According to the Washington Post, several states are considering laws to stop people from protesting at funerals. It seems Rev. Fred Phelps from Kansas and his psychotic followers are protesting funerals of Iraqi War soldiers saying that God is killing them as punishment because of us gay folk. How low can one man sink... The story is here.
  • Had two prank calls last night. Sounded like teenagers with too much time on their hands. I hope they slip off their skateboards and break a bone.
  • On 411, I had a guy ask me if I was chatting with a guy he used to date (who is also an LJ'er). I said yes, I did on occasion. He told me that I shouldn't because he's a "lier" and that I should be on my "gard." If he wants me to take him seriously, he needs to learn how to spell.
  • Chatted this morning with the always handsome [livejournal.com profile] raphbearish. He's so cute :)
  • Does anybody have any news on Mike ([livejournal.com profile] scifibear99)? Just wondering if he's okay.

I kinda feel guilty that I actually watch Beauty & the Geek. *cries*

LOL.. we all have our guilty pleasures. I find myself watching Celebrity Fit Club on occasion. I'm of course rooting for Chastity Bono and Bruce Villanche (sp?) -- the homo team :)

About the protests at funerals, this is my favourite thing about the article: "These people are not gainfully employed, so they're waiting for someone to do battle with them so they can go to court and win," said Bowser. "They want a big liability case to pursue. I don't think they actually give a diddly wink about the arguments they're making, but they're clever individuals trying to make a fast buck."

I definitely think that's the case for some of those protesters, anyway. Until I read that, it never occured to me that that is possible.

And this man is supposed to be a preacher. How sad! I'm sure they're just egging for a fight. Too bad the Hell's Angels don't just drive up and start beating the crap out of them. I'm sure there'd be no witnesses.

I dislike these people almost more than the religious right. They are out to spread hatred and maybe make a profit.

You probably heard that our state senate and house passed a gay rights bill. That happened on a Friday. On Monday one of the people here in Washington who sponsors all kinds of crap bills submitted two to repeal the law. I honestly don't think it's because he cares one way or the other I think it's because he knows he can galvanize the right wing and get them to finance him and line his pockets. There must be a better way to make a living. I hope there's a special section of hell for people like him and the "Phelps-ians".

I am wondering about Mike too Mark. If you hear anything, let me know.

Last time we chatted he was good but that has probably been a couple months now.

I read the same article at work about the protester/protesting. I got myself all worked up over it.

My boss has this running thing with me. He say's "whats the word Bob" and I say what ever random thing it is that's in my head at the time. We both get a kick out of it. So prior to heading home, he walks by, asks "whats the word Bob", I said "pissed". He asks why, I give him the clipping I took from the paper. He reads it, he shakes his head, and I blurt out that I'm gay, and stupid stuff like this just pisses me off. My boss did not even flinch when I said I'm gay.

But then for some reason, something in the back of my head, a little gaydar goes up when ever I see him. I admit, I have a little crush on him. I need to get a camera cell phone thingy so I can snag a pic or 2 of him (his nick name is Tank....that brings up images....)

Hmmm... perhaps we need to see a pic of this "Tank" :)

You make a valid point about the possible 1st Amendment violation and I'm sure that is what has kept him safe for a long time. I'd hate for him to start a precident for such rallies. Maybe we should pray for a meteor to land on him instead.

I have caller ID, but if they call from an unlisted number, they have to type the number in, which they'll just make something up. This is what those little $#!t's were doing last night.

If you ever visit, we'll hit Skyline for sure and you can hopefully see the eyecandy I've been privy to :)

he's a "lier" and that I should be on my "gard."

Wow... I thot I had bad speling. Irreguardless of spell chekers.

On the news a few weeks ago I checked out a small spot they did on this Phelps guy. They actually had a sign up that said "God Hates Fags." In the face of that kind of hate I really can't take them too seriously myself, but I am pissed that they are hurting the familys of these soldiers by minimizing thier son/daughter's sacrifice.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the spelling thing just annoys me. Not if they are commonly misspelled words, but for the ones he should have learned in 2nd grade.

As for Phelps, he's lower than dirt. So full of hate, I'm surprised he doesn't spontaneously combust. I know I wouldn't piss on him if he were ablaze.

Fred Phelps...*shakes head* People like him, I have to wonder if there isn't something very loose upstairs to make them be like they are.

That said, I agree that the first amendment rights do cut both ways but I sometimes wonder if the ACLU is even considering the fighting words doctrine where what/how you say something can cross lines and be a form of slander etc, not to mention, damaging to others like the God Hates Fags slogen can cause some people to see red and all hell could break loose and I'm not sure if Fred and his brainless followers will get out of it alive. Only time will tell.

There is a fine line to this and that has to be found first before simply defending one or both parties blindly.

Mmmmmm, burly, bearded guys...

That Fred Phelps, he's a wacky one isn't he?

Yea, people who can't spell I usually don't take seriously or I just ignore.

[identity profile] anziulewicz.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
West Virginia is one of the states currently considering legislation that would keep people like the Fred Phelps bunch from getting too close to funerals and other such events. And while I consider the Fred Phelps bunch BEYOND reprehensible, I think you have to be VERY cautious when putting together legislation that might impede free expression. Any legislation like this can cut both ways.

PRANK CALLS? Get Caller I.D., it only costs a few bucks a month, and you can immediately report the phone number of the offending party. I think it's worth it, especially when screening out those telemarketers.

If I ever managed to visit you, Mark, I would buy you lunch or dinner at Skyline Chili. Always wanted to try that.

[identity profile] rixtur.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that So called Rev.Phelps is the same guy who protested Mathew Shepards Funeral. Yes he is a looney, but its even more scarier that he has followers.

[identity profile] anziulewicz.livejournal.com 2006-02-03 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the pathetic thing is that nearly all of his "followers" are either blood relatives or in-laws. The Westboro Baptist Church is not the sort of place that encourages visitors to come worship (not that anyone would WANT to). They are too paranoid for that.

Marky

Hey Mark, check your email, I sent you something.

It's still delicious, I'm happy to say :)
