Buying at Borders

A new shopping area has opened up near my house. They have some great restaurants, upscale shopping (which I'll likely not patronize often), and a Borders! The last makes me the most happy because I love bookstores and I can check the store's inventory online and get discount coupons in the mail. I've already spent a good chunk of money there on DVD's this weekend.

I bought the DVD box set of Kolchak: The Night Stalker, a sort of X-Files precursor from the early-to-mid 1970's starring Darren McGavin as the reporter who finds himself often investigating the supernatural. It has a great mix of comedy and horror, something I think the new Night Stalker series lacks. It only lasted for a couple of seasons, but I think it would have done well if they hadn't canceled it. It has a cult following of sorts. And Darren McGavin is a nice furry guy as I found out from the episode "The Ripper."

I'm really here to find the killer...

Kolchak investigates a massage parlor and shows some skin...

One of the other movies I bought this weekend was Bram Stoker's The Mummy, found in the bargain bin while out and about. The movie is pretty much independent junk, but it stars Richard Karn in a supporting role. It's one of the few chances to see him shirtless. I snagged a screen capture for those who are interested to see it.

Ah.. Al Borland fur

Richard Karn also shows some skin...

Mmm... Richard Karn... *drool*

If only Richard knew who his real fans were. We'd buy just about anything with him showing some skin.

I loved Kolchak...I Still See it On TV Every So Often...

damn... first time I've seen a pic of Richard Karn shirtless. He's so hot. He needs to do more, with less on :)

[identity profile] cmorley.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea who Richard Karn is... I do now however.

I loved Kolchak, way back when. I might have to pick up that set.

Thanks! I always thought that Richard Karn would be furrier, but that's ok. If my plan to meet and seduce him when he was in Gainesville had worked, I would not have been disappointed.

I seem to remember him being made aware of his gay male fans. There was a bear club somewhere that made him an honorary member and him being very good natured and accepting of it. My memory is too sketchy to give any more details -- this was probably 10 years ago. He is incredibly dreamy and I'm told he is just as sweet in person.

sci-fi would run the old kolchak's all the time when i first got tivo. so i got to see them all over again in the last year. i didn't realize they were coming out on dvd. that's probably why they stopped airing them.

but Darren McGavin actually appeared as a retired newspaper reported in the x-files. i don't remember if the character was called kolchak or not.

i've got a couple episodes of the new kolchak waiting for me to watch, but haven't had the time.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, he is dreamy, isn't he? :)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he may be one of the few stars who embraces having a gay audience who appreciates him. I will always picture him being like Al Borland, sweet and cuddly :)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I caught them on the Sci-Fi Channel (and still can on occasion) and I just loved the low budget feel of them. :)

I've heard that he did some shirtless stuff on "Home Improvement," but I never saw it. When I saw him in this some years ago, I nearly fell over... very woofy :)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kolchak is very worth it, in my opinion. It's about $35-40 for 20 episodes :)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I thought he'd be hairier too, but I do like what he has :)

If you had seduced him, you had best have gotten photos for the masses :D

Actually Sci-Fi still runs them, they had a mini-block of them on this past Thursday, it's what sparked me to see if the DVD box set was out.

According to the IMDB, it was a different character on the X-Files episodes.

I've seen a couple of the new series, but it doesn't have the same feel as the original.

I also meant to get the DVD set of the two TV movies, but I keep forgetting.

Did Darren McGavin play Murphy Brown's dad? I can't remember.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, he did play "Bill Brown" on Murphy Brown, his sparing matches with her mother was hilarious. :)

Thank you SO much for that Richard Karn pic.
I've wanted to see him shirtless for YEARS!
*swoon*

Anything I can do to make the masses happy :)

[identity profile] jbear70.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm, Richard Karn. Thanks for posting his photo [drool].

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, he is adorable :)

[identity profile] cincy-dave.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Richard Karn is very woofy!

And I've also heard the story that he knows how the bear community loves him. And that he is OK with that. Pretty cool.

[identity profile] cmorley.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! He's... *waves hands* Al from 'Home Improvement'!

Duh!

He's a local guy, too, from what I understand. Well, by "local" I mean "near Seattle".

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I admire guys who have that much self-confidence to be okay with being a gay lust object.

[identity profile] bearfuz.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Some serious eyelashes, too! Those makeup queens sure know their mascara!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, a lot of burly men have nice eyelashes. I've heard women in my office make comment on it before, how jealous that Joe Schmoe has naturally thick eyelashes or something.
