Skeleton Key

My plans for dinner and a movie with some local friends tomorrow fell through, so I decided to catch a late showing of The Skeleton Key.

I hate to say it, but I was very disappointed. Normally, I love a movie with a suspensful air to it, but it seemed to stall every time the story seemed to be building toward a tense moment. Kate Hudson comes across as uninterested most of the time, especially when she's supposed to be scared or engaging.

It was good to see Peter Sarsgaard again. He gives a good performance, but I'm biased because I think he's cute and I've seen him in his full frontal, furry glory (rent or buy Kinsey for that).

The ending has a nice, but predictable twist. The story had a lot of promise, but the film just never lived up to the hype. It could have been so much better, I thought. Overall, I felt like I watched an extra-long Twilight Zone episode.

AHHH! are you serious?? we loooved The Skeleton Key like a fat kid loves cake. In my opinion it was nice that the movie didn't rely on shock value to try and make it seem better than it really was. HooDoo??, I mean, when is the last time you saw a good southern accent movie? I was won over easy, but I try to separate movies I see from the genre label attached to them (or else I come out of the theatre feeling betrayed if it didn't live up to the label)
