Sleeping

I'm not sure what is going on with me this time of year. With it overcast and dreary, cold and blah, I have been sleepy beyond belief every day.

Almost every day after work, I come home ready to sleep. I fight it most days, putting forth some energy to work out instead. With the extremely cold weather of this past week, running outdoors is just not an option, which made working out tough. So today, I set a phone alarm and tried for a one-hour nap that lasted two. Without an alarm, it would go for three per past practice. In fact, my three-hour naps made life very easy for my mom when I was a kid.

The strange part of it is that I love to sleep. Naps feel so good and I generally have some pretty fun dreams, as evident by some of the posts here.

I'm not really worried about it. I'm blaming my yearning to sleep on seasonal issues. Hopefully, when the sunshine and warmer weather hits, it'll be easier to stay awake.

My guess is it's lack of sunlight. I get really low-energy when I don't get enough sun, and since winter's low on sunlight hours already, gray and dreary weather might be enough to flip your "hibernate" switch.

Hmm, actually...

Do you take vitamin D? There's a school of thought that believes the RDA for vitamin D, while sufficient to keep you from getting rickets, is much lower than the amount that will keep you healthy and well-balanced, and that most Americans are chronically vitamin-D deficient, because we all spend so much time indoors. My doctor started me on vitamin D a long time back, and it definitely makes a difference in my energy levels.

So if you're tired all the time, especially in dreary weather, you might need more vitamin D.

I'll have to try that. Anything that will help :)
