Monday's Strange Accent
I'm pleased to announce that my food poisoning has apparently passed. I actually got to eat a solid meal for the first time since Saturday and I was famished. I took today off from work as I didn't sleep well the last couple of days and still felt a tad dehydrated.
Has anyone besides me ever faked an accent to avoid talking to a co-worker on the phone? I called in to my boss this morning, but got his voice-mail. I left a message and told him I'd call back later to check on things. When I called back, I got bounced around until I hit this certain secretary I hate to talk to. She is "The Foghorn," the one with no volume control whose voice can make you cringe. She is the one who announced my costume to the masses as I tried to quietly make it to my desk last Halloween.
Well, when I realized I had her on the phone, I slipped into a deeper toned, slower voice and asked for my boss' secretary. I just wasn't in the mood for the Foghorn's barrage of questions -- "where are you? How are you? Did you see a doctor? Are you puking? Are you having the Hershey squirts?" (Yes, she gets this personal).
Thankfully, my ruse was successful and I got past her, but I felt like a total idiot afterwards. Isn't it sad to have to go to such lengths??? :P Tomorrow, back to the salt mines....

This secretary is the one who asked me if I expected a good turnout at my grandmother's funeral. I told her that it depended on what band was going to be playing and if there was a cash bar.
