Foo Foo Restaurants

On the recommendation of some folks I am working with this week, a co-worker and I went to a restaurant called The Blue Canyon last night for dinner. We were supposed to meet up with another co-worker and [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace. I knew I was in trouble when we walked in and saw the wine glasses on the table.

One of the guys I'm working with said they had exotic foods like "lobster nachos," so I was thinking this place was just a quirky grill with a more adventurous menu. In reviewing the leather bound menus with minimal choices, I realized this is a place you take a date, not a causal place to eat. The restaurant has some very creative dishes, almost everything contains seafood and is covered in some elaborate cheese or sauce guaranteed to blow my daily points through the roof. Even the only hamburger on the menu had "aged asiago cheese" or something on it. And the prices were through the roof. Like I said, it's a place to take a date when you want to impress.

Since the others had not shown yet, my co-worker and I decided to exit the restaurant, paying for our drinks and leaving a 100% tip for the server for taking up her table. We called the others and hit pizza instead. While I thought the atmosphere and the menu was great at the restaurant, I am not one for experimentation when I am hungry and I still have work to deal with at night like last night. My local cohort suggested an Irish pub for dinner when I come up here next week, and that sounds more my speed.

Heading home on Friday.. yay...

Yep, what's the point in spending the money if you can't really enjoy it? I'm guessing if it was a steak house, you would probably be cool with that. I no I would. Mmmmm..., steak.

Heh, good call, though that burgers sounds pretty awesome, as do lobster nachos :)

They had steak on the menu, but everything was so over the top, I don't think I would have enjoyed it.

It really is a place you do have to plan to stay for at least a couple of hours.

And steak is good stuff...

Honestly, I did think of you and [livejournal.com profile] chrisglass when we were in the restaurant, as I knew you guys would probably appreciate the place.
