The Barnyard at the Movies

Cows Driving
Joyriding Cows in Barnyard: The Original Party Animals

I snuck out from my sister's house yesterday to catch Barnyard: The Original Party Animals. Usually, I would take my nephew with me, but his little cousins were visiting and they were all acting like they had drank a dozen espressos and had a bag of sugar. Nothing in the world was going to make me take them to a movie theater, regardless of the movie.

The story involves a cow named Otis who inherits the role of farm protector and leader from his father. Otis prefers to be a party animal versus a responsible adult. At night, the animals have a big party in the barn after the farmer has gone to bed, complete with band, bar, and dance floor. However, after a pack of coyotes attacks the farm, Otis has to grow up and face them.

The story wasn't completely original, but I think it was handled well. There is some good music in the film and some genuinely funny scenes. I especially like the next door neighbors, the wife of which is a Gladys Kravitz sort. They never explain why Otis is a male with an udder like a female. Somethings you just have to accept I guess.

Did I enjoy it? Yes, it was fun.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
Buy the DVD? I think so.
