Pride and National Coming Out Day

Happy National Coming Out Day! It's been over 11 years for me and overall a wonderful experience!

Today, after lunch, Halloween costume shopping, and a bit of drawing, I went to the local art house theater to catch a matinee of Pride. The movie tells a true story of the 1984-85 miners strike in Great Britain. During this time a group of London gays and lesbians decided to support the miners during this time by raising money and support, giving it mainly to a small Wales village. The village reluctantly accepts the aid from the group, but slowly learns to appreciate and eventually likes them.

It really is a wonderful movie, holding a very high approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it earns every percentage point. Imelda Staunton is fantastic and I loved Bill Nighy, Dominic West, and Paddy Considine are fantastic. The gays are played by a group of young, enthusiastic actors. It was a fitting movie for the day all things considered. I may purchase this one when it comes out on DVD.

While I was waiting for the movie to start, I broke in a new sketchbook.

Again, Happy National Coming Out Day!
