Go Your Own Way...Go Your Own Wayyy-ayyy

You Can Go Your Own Way...
Mark... *gasp* ... sings?

And badly! Though a few kind folks said I managed to at least stay on key.

Last night, I swore walking into the Barking Dog (the karaoke bar) that I was only going in for a beer or two and I wasn't going to sing. One pint of Guinness and a shot of something called "Birthday Cake" later, a coworker and the person who usually coerces me into this had me on stage singing "You're the One That I Want" from Grease.

My coworker is pregnant and can't drink so she was especially eager to entertain herself. So we belted out a second song, "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac. I'd had a second Guinness before this, a pint of courage before making a fool of myself in front of coworkers. At least this time, she was sober.

I got a photo this round, but thankfully the friend taking the shot didn't know how to shoot video on my camera.

The Cashier

Glitzy Cashier
Blue Eyeshadow Completes the Ensemble

Last night before I sang in front of a bar full of strangers, my friend Aaron and I went to dinner. After looking at several places, I spied this little diner whose name sadly escapes me this morning. It's open 24/7 and has been serving since 1935, so I had to sample a piece of Bethesda history. It's a true diner, nothing fancy, the counters and booths, etc., but the food was really good and the owner stopped by our booth and seemed very appreciative of the business.

What caught my attention (besides a burly daddy bear eating solo and the cute guy I was eating with myself) was this lady. With her white fuzzy cap, her frayed scarf, her blue glitzy blouse, and a Selma Diamond voice, she nonchalantely but politely growled as she asked if we enjoyed our meal. Up close, my camera phone seems to do the job as it was a covert shot. All I could think of in leaving was that I hope she made it to bingo on time.

Not all of the great sights in DC are downtown. :D

Dan Seals

Dan SealsSorry for the multiple postings this morning. I read in the paper this morning while riding the Metro to class that Dan Seals passed away from cancer a couple of days ago.

I'm sad to hear this. Not only was he was one good looking bear of a guy, but I really enjoy his music. I've had his "Best Of" CD for years and years and I often listen to "Bop" on my iPod and it always seems to pick me up as it's just a fun song that causes my foot to tappin'. And "My Baby's Got Good Timin'" has a great blend of vocals in the middle that I love.

Sigh... :(
