I had this idea during my all-day training meeting today at work.

Here is my Goth-spinster, alter-ego Bitchie Ann McSourpuss, pushing her latest money-making idea to fleece the syrupy-sweet romantic couples of the season.

Anti-Valentine 2017
Oh... Crap!

This is certainly a slow time of year for me. It's post-holidays, trying to get back on the routines and such. Here are a few odds and ends of the last few days.

  • I slept a lot this weekend. I'm not sure what was up. Just felt the urge to sleep in, to nap, etc. I often blame the changes in the weather, which seems to be swinging back and forth between mild and freezing.

  • On Saturday, I did manage to squeeze in a matinee of "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies". Zombies are running rampant in 19th Century London and the ladies of high society are brought up training to be warriors as well as proper women. The previews in the States have made it more of a horror movie, but there is a fair amount of comedy. The action scenes are fun as well. The reviews have been mixed, but I enjoyed it.

  • I've been drawing Issue #19 of "Grizzly and The Bear Patrol." I'm over half-way through on the penciling work. Strangely, it's coming very easily for me.

  • Time is flying by and I nearly forgot to draw my annual anti-Valentine starring my Goth-spinster alter-ego Bitchie Ann McSourpuss. I got the idea for this one from an ad on TV. I do think that the fact Valentine's Day and "Spay and Neuter Month" coincide in February is wonderfully ironic.

Few cartoon characters I've created bring me as much perverse pleasure as Bitchie Ann McSourpuss, my Goth-Spinster alter-ego. Far from pretty, lacking in all social graces, and brimming with more than a bit of bitter magic, she usually appears when I lament being single. So naturally, she appears on Valentine's Day more than most days of the year. If you want Bitchie's origin, it's in this long ago entry.

And I don't really lament being single, but I do hate the commercialism of this fake holiday reminding me of it at nearly every turn. My response to it is humor. Dark humor. Dark, twisted, bitter humor. It keeps me warm.:

044 - Annual Bitchie Anti-Valentine

I admit that this weekend, I didn't do much. I wasn't interested in watching any of the Olympics and it seems that the movie distributors didn't release anything worth watching. In retrospect, it would have been a perfect weekend to drive to my hometown to visit, but naturally I didn't think of that until Sunday.

Netflix sent me a Roger Corman double-header of "The Masque of the Red Death" and "Premature Burial" on the same DVD, so that kept me occupied. Neither movie is particularly great, but they did well for passing the time. The first starred Vincent Price and the second starred Ray Milland, but both movies starred a British actress named Hazel Court and her considerable cleavage.

Last night, while waiting for the mid-season premiere of "The Walking Dead," I drew my annual anti-Valentine starring my goth-spinster alter-ego Bitchie Ann McSourpuss. She definitely prefers the bitter to the sweet.

Bitchie Ann 2013
A touch of wicked truth to go with that serenade...

I did another Bitchie toon the other night but I didn't post it because after a 2nd look, it just wasn't right. I posted it behind the cut.

Bitchie Ann 2013 Unused

I titled this one, "Love Isn't the ONLY Thing in the Air..." I liked the idea at first, but the idea of an active Bitchie Ann just seemed wrong. She levitates above the ground because she's too f**king lazy to walk and she's going to skate? No, it's just isn't right.

Still, I love a good fart joke.

Work is going to be very busy this week, but at least it should fly by, provided I can keep my sanity.

Valentine's Day is today and, quite frankly, I couldn't care less. When I have a guy in my life, I'll probably care more. I think a Bitchie Valentine speaks more about my feelings toward it than words ever could (for humorous effect of course).

A Bitchie Valentine 2012

I came up with this idea while shopping at Wal-Mart and seeing a display of bears similar to this one. Come to think of it, I may have seen a Bitchie look-a-like or two there too. What a surprise.

It's Valentine's Day, which means in my mind, it's time for Bitchie Ann to surface. For those of you new-ish to the journal, you can read her history here. As you can see from the cartoon, she's changed a lot over the years, but bitterness will do that to a person.

With the candy everywhere with me dieting, the ads that remind that Jane Seymour's open-heart pendants will tell her you love her forever, and Valentine's Day promotions for everything from toothpaste to mattresses to maxi-pads, I've had enough.

Yesterday, I had the joy of walking into Victoria's Secret, which was decked out to the absolute Valentine's Day hilt. The perky salesladies raced to meet me as I'm sure I looked out of sorts, a man in Victoria's Secret probably to find a last minute gift for my girlfriend. They gave me a strange look of pity when I told them I was there to get more of a lotion that someone gave my mom for a gift. Walking the mall with a bright red Victoria's Secret gift bag just invites attention. Normally, I'd revel in such a thing, perhaps even telling them that the sale on edible underwear was FAB-U-LOUS, but yesterday's bout with Lenscrafters drained me of such a gleeful attitude.

(mental note: next time, just order the $#!+ online and have it mailed to Mom)

I drew this Bitchie toon last week, but my mood is more fitting today. Just a little sarcasm in the face of some overwhelming corniness.

The 2011 Bitchie Valentine

A Bitchie Valentine 2010For new folks to my journal, I have a cartoon character I draw called Bitchie Ann McSourpuss, my goth-dressed spinster alter-ego. She's the punisher of bad dates, the queen of romantic sarcasm, and the antagonist of Valentine's Day.

I'd not done a Bitchie Ann cartoon for a while, but while I was out doing shopping stuff this afternoon, I was getting a bit turned off with the flood of the Valentine's Day junk that is everywhere. This is the perfect fuel for a Bitchie Ann toon.

I had a couple of false starts when it came to the cartoon. The first was a gun-toting Bitchie Anne with a cupid in her sights. The next was Bitchie with a fly strip holding several cupids. Neither seemed to work, so I decided to tackle one of my favorites -- candy!

Of most of them, I admit that last year's toon has been my favorite so far.

I went out to get a haircut yesterday and had to wait a bit for the chair. I managed to finish a sketch I've been working on during the last few days.

I've not been drawing much this week, but found a couple that I had drawn but was unsure I'd ever posted. Both are work-safe.

Bitchie Ann McSourpuss -- Artist's Rendering

Seeing how my Goth-Spinster alter-ego has been in present in a sense more often than me in the last month, I thought I would give her a sound introduction, which translates better to warning. I was sitting around today and the image of Bitchie came to mind and I sketched her out, which is good considering that her image cannot be captured on film.
